Tips and FAQ
Straight answers to what people actually asked in the Steam forums during the Demo and Prologue period, plus the things that trip up new players in the first hour. Answers marked unconfirmed are things the release build has not settled publicly yet.
Buying and platforms
Is this Early Access or a full release? A full release, not Early Access — it launched September 21, 2026. On September 22 DRAGO posted "Thank You and Upcoming Content Update", saying a content update was planned that week. That is a plan and not a date, and a content update is not DLC: no DLC has been announced and the player question about it still has no answer. DLC plans: unconfirmed.
What does it cost? $19.99 on the US store, with an introductory 10% discount taking it to $17.99. The buy box says "INTRODUCTORY OFFER! Offer ends October 5", so that is the launch offer rather than the permanent price (checked September 24, 2026). The Prologue and the Demo are free either way, and regional pricing differs.
Is it on GOG? Yes — a GOG listing exists for Roadhouse Simulator. Someone on Steam asked exactly that, because they prefer buying there. If cross-store timing matters to you, check both listings.
Is there multiplayer or co-op? No. Steam lists single-player, and there is a player thread asking for multiplayer with no announced support.
Are there Steam Achievements? Yes — 50, and the stats page populated inside the first day after the September 21 unlock. Two bugs came with them: Hotfix #2 fixed achievements that would not unlock at all, and Hotfix #4 awards anything you already earned in-game retroactively when a save loads, so older saves catch up. The completion rates are also the fastest way to see what the game expects of you: the rarest on September 24 were I Occasionally Invest (0.8%) and The House Always... (0.9%), while House Pour sat at 92.7%.
Does it support controllers? No. The release listing still has no controller support tag — Steam lists Single-player, Steam Achievements, Steam Cloud and Family Sharing, nothing else — and the August developer thread explaining that the tools are unbound on a gamepad is still pinned there, with the same answer given to a player who asked on September 22 whether the full release had added it. Play with keyboard and mouse.
How long is the game? Launch-week players report finishing with everything maxed in four to seven hours, and one of the busiest threads on the forum is titled "very short". DRAGO's Mercus answered it on September 23: the game is shorter than their usual simulator because it was planned as a DLC and then became a full release, and they chose not to pad it out — the same reply puts their own playtest average at 8–9 hours for a new player. The full source is on Release & Platforms.
A tutorial will not advance and I am stuck. Update first. Five hotfixes landed between September 21 and 23 and several fix exactly this class of problem: the pig-race and Fight Club first-bet tutorials, the R/F controls tutorial with an empty keg, a greyed-out vending machine on the office PC that blocked supply orders and story progression, a delivery car that never arrived, and a stuck objective blocking the Fight Club story. If you are already on the newest build and still locked, the in-game F7 reporter is the channel DRAGO reads.
Playing it
Can I close the roadhouse? Closing the bar is a real action in the release build — Hotfix #4 fixed a bug where closing during the first drug-related objectives left you with no order, which only happens if you can close. Where the toggle actually lives is still not documented publicly. Menu location: unconfirmed.
Can I use chairs or furniture as weapons? Players asked. As of the Prologue, no — combat is hands, slap and the Ultimate snake. Unconfirmed whether the release build added it.
Why does picking up empties start a fight? Player Inmate #001 reported that collecting glasses from a table accidentally served a drunk patron, who then stood up to fight. Mind the prompt you are aiming at when clearing tables.
How long does the cigarette last? One player (Edelweiss) asked for 30–40 seconds because beating people up while smoking is a lifestyle. No developer answer at the time of writing.
Does the snake Giacomo do anything outside combat? Asked on the Prologue forum (Elias Auxilibus) — no answer at the time of writing. Treat it as your ultimate, not a pet.
The cops show up constantly. Is that normal? Player super reported inspections arriving every ten minutes or so in the Demo and asked for tuning. Launch week kept the question alive — "Cop interval?" and "The problem with fines" were both near the top of the forum on September 22 — and Hotfix #5 fixed the policeman wandering off while the Roadhouse was closed during an inspection. The frequency itself has not been patched. Keep the place clean and it gets quieter; see Gangs & the Sheriff.
Can I add a garbage truck for pickups? Player GFRGAMER suggested one, in the spirit of Gas Station Simulator. Demo hotfix #3 already added a one-button garbage removal, so collection was already simplified.
Why is the bar empty at Hype 0? Hype is the crowd meter, not a score. Serve drinks, keep stock on the shelves, and get an attraction running — see Hype & Customers.
Troubleshooting
The game won't start / I get error codes. Reported during the Prologue and still reported after launch ("Error Couldn't Start", "Game crash" and "not able to play game no visuals" all appeared in the first days). Check the Steam discussion thread for the same error, and verify your GPU driver and the DirectX 11 requirement.
Text says <unbound> for a tool. That is the reported gamepad binding bug, not your config. Use keyboard and mouse until it is fixed.
A tool or menu opened at the wrong time and blocked my progress. The Demo hotfixes are full of exactly this class of bug (the tool wheel or pause menu opening before a tutorial, input dying after a reset). Update to the latest build — the Prologue and Demo both received content updates that fixed these.
It lags outside. See the settings list on Performance & Settings.
